For the past several years J.H. Benedict Company has been a proud sponsor of the Formula SAE team at Bradley University. Each Year a team of mechanical engineering seniors builds a formula car to compete in the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Formula Car. This activity is performed as part of their required senior capstone project experience. J.H. Benedict offers students the opportunity to work side by side with our engineers and skilled craftsman during critical design and fabrication phases. Student actually operate the machinery used to fabricate many of the critical one off components used in the assembly of the teams formula car.

Prototype Design “Proof of Concept”

Prototype or “Proof of Concept” Design Services

Many customers choose to build prototype parts for a new project or to improve current products. Building parts by this method can then provide critical information regarding fit, form and function during testing. Once tested, modifications can easily be made, new parts produced and then retested. This process can be very cost effective compared to building a tool to produce the part and then finding that the part does not perform as first anticipated.

Others find they can take a production part, make modifications to it, and gain the required results. We can help get you from concept to production.

	Reverse Engineering With the technology we have at your disposal, we have the ability to reconstruct a new part either from a worn-out one or one that has been severely damaged. We are capable of reconstructing a new part by documenting dimensions gathered from the remaining structure, gathering information from the mating part or assembly, and using past experience to help rebuild the part. We are asked to remake parts frequently and have been very successful. At times it takes many hours to do so, but if the part is irreplaceable, this may be the only solution.
CNC Programming and MachiningIn today’s industrial market, speed is a critical factor to the success of the product. Several elements are needed to perform this task. Good conceptual ideas, good tooling, good equipment experienced operators, and the ability to bring them all together to build a quality part. The utilization of a good CAM system is an essential part of this mix. We use EDGE CAM software to generate the tool path.
	Casting ServicesWe have the ability to provide our customers with castings that can be poured in a variety of metals. We work very closely with American Pattern when castings are required for a customer. They specialize in supplying proto-type, prove design and short run production parts. We can rely on them to provide high quality castings that we then finish machine with the ability to deliver rapidly to our customers. The combination of a strategic partner and our machine expertise adds value to the products we produce.
